The wife and I decided we would try something new out here before she drags me to NFM against my will So far I have to say that I kinda like it....it's not my regular or around the way mexican restaurant but so far the service has been quite attentive. And the waitress is pretty and smells good too, but I digress...other than the hostess wanting to set us almost at the bar I can't complain. The salsa not too shabby I have had worse, a lot worse and you can tell it's been made in house it's on the warm side spicy wise but that's ok. And the problem begins the staff in the kitchen did not read the order and my wife's order came out with red sauce instead of cheese sauce...it was quickly resolved and we are back on track My quesidilla was tremendous and extremely good, perfectly seasoned and done right , and I loved the guacamole salad that came with it....I hate trying new places especially when it comes to mexican food. Just looking around the restaurant is extremely clean, the music is at a good vole to hear it but soft enough to carry on a conversation without yelling I enjoyed not being bothered with the initial question of whether or not you wanted a beer or mixed drink I will come back and yes I will have the same thing next time....first impressions are everything and except for a couple bumps they did very well Well off to NFM.....God help me!

Was very very upset when I came here a few weeks ago at 0730a to get breakfast on a Thursday. My coworker and I had been talking about it all night at the hospital. We were highly disappointed they were closed. Workers cars were there but no one answered the door or the phone. Very disappointing since the signs all day they'd be open! UPDATE~ About a week ago I decided to give it another chance.... And I actually got inside this time... Although it was just me in the whole restaurant... Which made me feel awkward. The waiter did a good job taking care of me-- and the breakfast food is pretty normal. Their pancakes tasted good they melted in my mouth, but I wish I had been more specific about the ham and sausage ---was barley hot same with the hash browns... So next time I'll say well done for everything. Their omelet was good. I put a lot of their amazing salsa on top! Where's the bacon?? AND THEY SERVE ALCOHOL DURING BREAKFAST!!!!

I found myself eating lunch at Casa Agave due to the fact it was conveniently located in an adjoining parking lot to my hotel. I should have taken my walk a little further down the road. The food came out quick and was warm, but I did not feel like any of it was seasoned well. It was all a bit bland. Also, although the triangular plates are different and pleasing to the eye, they became an inconvenience when I would put my fork or knife down. It never failed that my utensil ended up in my food. If you are an avid Mexican food eater like myself, I'd suggest trying somewhere else.

I can't wait to see what will be the next restaurant to occupy this building. This restaurant was very slow on a Thursday night. I should have listened to my fellow Yelpers. I was hoping the owners would have served more traditional taco shells and fare.

This was possibly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We we were the only ones in the restaurant when we got there (which should have been our first clue) and after sitting for almost 1.5 hrs with only chips and salsa, we left. The environment was dirty, freezing, and held only the sounds of the staff in the kitchen for ambience. Absolutely terrible!

  • Robert B.

One word, Awful. I should have known better walking up to. Restaurant with NO customers inside. Sat at the bar, order a beer on tap and they had to get it from the back. Ordered a quesadilla and it was nothing short of fajita mixed vegetables in a folded oil soaked tortilla. Just don't go here.

It's not the most authentic Mexican food you can find, and the service leaves something to be desired. But when you want a particular kind of burrito - the kind that is to actual Mexican food what Chili's is to authentic BBQ - this is the best the area has to offer. Weirdly, the waitstaff has a habit of yelling, in Spanish, into their earpieces while standing a foot away, which can occasionally be awkward.

After a packed Sporting soccer game we stopped here for Dinner. We asked to seat at front but the owner took us to the back room saying that it will be better for the music. I felt like we got stuck in that room because we were wearing our Sporting jersey and we have our 3 year old with us. We got sit in a room were they had a large party of heavy drinkers if this was better for my daughter ok. That make sense. Service was ok. But the Food was terrible. I ordered the Steak Agave it was served with sautéed mushrooms and flavorless chorizo in a dry cheese sauce that looked more like a burned roux. The T-bone steak was not cook medium rare, it tasted old and you can tell it was frozen and they never add any seasoning so it was BLAND it also was served with 3 starches, rice, baked potato, beans and steamed again with no seasoning vegetables The whole experience was really bad and the shrimp salad was only Shredded lettuce with tomato edges and cheese.

I made reservations for 6 people for the fight last week for the fights. I called the day before to verify our reservations. Your restaurant told me "yes". We showed up on time. The manager and host told us that we did not have reservations. We left. A co-worker said a similar thing happened to him at this restaurant. This is the second time it's happened to my wife and me at this restaurant. The man that took my reservation conveniently does not work there anymore. We now know how they treat regular customers. We are ex-customers now and we will not go there again.

Ok, instead of rambling on, I'm going to list and summarize why I gave this restaurant 1 star (1 star is not a normal rating for me). Here it is: 1. We ordered cheese dip, never got it, but it was on our check 2. The chair pads people sit on were dirty and disgusting 3. The dish I received, Chile Colorado, was bland and the beef was so dry and the sauce was bland. I had a full plate that I did not eat because it was bad. 4. The tortilla chips were stale and not crispy 5. There were signs for an "angry-rita"all over, yet they are only served on Fridays (then don't advertise them until Friday) BTW an angry-rita is a margarita with a bottle of Angry Orchard tipped into it 6. Our server took a long time, because she was the only server that had a full section and had a huge party (staffing was a problem) I won't go there again is what I'm trying to say. I was so disappointed in the experience I had.

My mom and I decided to have lunch at casa agave because we had been given a restaurant.com certificate for the restaurant. We both love mexican food and were excited to try a mexican restaurant so close to our house. This restaurant may have turned me off mexican food for life. IT WAS AWFUL! A picture is worth a thousand words, so I've uploaded three photos of my chile relianos to express what I can't. It was soggy, tasteless, without any filling.. It was not crispy on the outside and the inside of the breading was still white. It was greasy and the sauce had no flavor at all. The guacamole salad was an ice cream scooper of bland guacamole on a plate of shredded iceberg, with a slice of under ripened tomato. The waitstaff was more interested in talking than working and when we showed our restaurant.com certificate, the waitress picked up my phone and walked away. The waitstaff should be trained not to walk away with someone's cell phone! It just put the cherry on the awful sundae that was my Sunday lunch at casa agave. I will never ever set foot here again.

Usually when you order the cheese dip is is a glorious bowl of molten cheese and, if ordered, some chorizo in the mix. What we got was a strip of something resembling taffy with the chorizo sitting on top. For dinner I ordered the enchiladas supreme. 4 enchiladas, refried beans in 1, a beef, a chicken and a cheese and onion was the 4th. Cheese and onion was terrible because the cheese was that taffy stuff. Chicken was bland the refried beans was paste and the beef was dry. Wifey has the shrimp and chicken with lots of vegetables. Again no flavor. There were a lot of employees there but they were preoccupied with the soccer match. Even the salsa was bland.

Food came out fast and was good, but not like a have to try kinda place. My daughters kids meal cheeseburger was HUGE though, and so was my wife's margarita. On my diet so had guac which was just so so. Chips don't appear to be made here but Salsa is good. Big bar area so probably fun place to watch soccer, which they have on every TV.

    (3)
  • Marc B.

Chip were cold and stale, with random colored ones that look half eaten. Margarita was so weak a 7 year old could drink it. Also the straw was so wide it caused massive brain freeze. Then the epic fail came. I have never seen refried beans have such an odd camel brown color. They had no taste at all, even the rice was bland. The tacos had so much grease, the bottom gave out first bite. Run dont walk away from this fiasco fiesta.

We went here after a shopping trip to the Legends. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas, and was very pleased with size of the platter. Boyfriend got the chimchanga and ate the whole portion. We also really enjoyed the margaritas that were on special that day. The best part was probably the outdoor patio. It was a beautiful day, and no one else was out there when we arrived. The staff were quite amenable to our request when we mentioned that we'd like to go sit outside. Although they were trying to keep all the tables in the shade, next time I would suggest they try to space them out a bit more so you can have a more private conversation. I'd go again, even if only for another tasty marg and chips and salsa!

  • Master Wayne J.

The food wasnt great. The tamato sauce tasted like it was straight from a can, there was burnt cheese in the bottom of our dipping cheese. Food had almost no taste.. we left the store hungry. We asked for the manager and he never showed up. We wont be coming back.

  • Mike H.

Guacamole had great flavor along with the salsa. Our meals had good flavor. However all 4 meals were room temperature at best. Service was good. Can't think of a good reason to come back.

Save your family, don't make the mistake I made and eat here. The bad reviews were right. I have never written a review bit felt obligated for the sake of all mankind. I believe this must be a money laundering operation.

I do not know what happened to this place seems like it went straight down hill. the food was the most horrible mexican ive ever ate on my latest visit. seems like items are either reused or they have been in the refrigerator for a long time. by that i mean things dont look fresh fresh. unless they do something i dont see this place making it any longer. i say avoid this place until they fix there kitchen

    (1)
  • Desiree M.

Dont come here its overpriced and tasteless, coming from three adults with different menu items. Almost $4 for a cheese quesadilla is something that I have yet heard of on price. i do not think this place will last. My mother ordered a enchilada combination, that was supposed to come with a chili relleno, she ended up getting all beef (two of the them, it was supposed to be chicken and one beef) and no chilli relleno, just another beef enchilada, and when asked they said they substituted the chilli relleno since they were out of the chilis...i guess they couldn't come ask if that was okay? All in all not a great experience, i would never recommend this place much less even come in if i was dying of thirst and needed a glass of water. There are so many other places to choose from don't waste your time here!

    (1)
  • Katie L.

Not sure why there's bad reviews about this place... I thought it was great! Even on a Friday night with a packed restaurant, our service was great and food came out quick and as ordered. We both ordered chimichangas and were very pleased. The food was delicious and prices were fair. I will definitely come back to try more in the future!

  • Thomas A.

I think we have a death wish but...several of our friends visited here and swear they got food poisoning. Of course, we ran right out and decided to see what that was all about. Anyway, the prices are ok, the service is ok, the food is ok. There are too many Mexican restaurants in KC to deal with just "ok". We went on a week night and there were a cluster of employees at the doorway gossiping and carrying on which I thought was a bit unprofessional. But, it wasn't busy so perhaps they had nothing better to do. The food is nothing to write home about. When I hear or read about the "authenticity" of Mexican food, I often wonder why no one ever says "authentic" Chinese food or "authentic" Italian food. This is "authentically" Tex-Mex, American-palate, Mexican food. What most of us are used to. It's okay. And I wouldn't drive out here just to visit Casa Agave but I wish them well. And, if I were out at the Legends or close by and had a hankering for Mexican, I would consider going back. We ordered some guacamole to start and it was okay but not as fresh as I like. It was starting to darken meaning it was not very fresh. You can't keep guacamole for long periods in the fridge or leave sitting out. It starts to oxidize and darken and become bitter. I had cheese enchiladas. I wonder why no one bakes them anymore? It appeared to be heated corn tortillas stuffed with cheese and then slathered with the mole sauce and some more cheese and not all the way melted. The taste was average. My dinner companion had fajitas. They were well presented, very pretty and the beef was tasty but a bit tough. I know fajita meat is tougher than other cuts but the appropriate lime marinade should reduce some of that. At any rate, it wasn't a bad meal but seriously, could we melt the cheese in the enchiladas better?

Decent ambiance. Convenient location if you are visiting some main attractions. Food was decent. Service was slow. Chips tasted stale. I had the Pollo Bandido which was good. My wife had the cheese quesodillas which was ok

  • Keith W.

Slow service, and everything extra will cost you! Food was so so. we ordered fajitas and were sadly disappointed, hardly any meat, the tortillas were so small that we had to ask for more, and were promptly charged another $1something. No cheese with your fajitas either, add another $2 something. A very small cup of queso will cost you $4. for average quality food and inattentive service I predict that s joint won't be around long unless they change.

I just don't know where to begin. Well we just left (party of two women) with the police called on us... We are in town for work and decided to take a walk across from our hotel in the parking lot and try this restaurant. We were greeted and promptly seated to a closed non-existed area so, I said we would just sit at the bar, which was full of 4 other people. We were brought our drinks and they took our order so we thought... About 30-40 mins we asked about our food and was told "oh we didn't think you were ready to order" ummm yes., we were and did. So 15 mins after we received our luke warm fajitas for two. The manger, Pedro said he was sorry and would comp our fajitas. When the bill came it said 25% off which came to $12.16 not the $21.99 for the fajitas. I then requested the manager again and he said he would take care of it..,, 15 more mins... He came back and said we lied about the time it took for our food according to their "cameras" and he wasn't taking care of anything. I said we would pay for everything but the fajitas which he said he would take care. Btw they were cold and we had 1.5 of them. He said he's calling the police... Which he did. I paid the bill, waited for the police... I was met by a nice officer who said he has been called to this establishment before but usually for really bad food. No legal action was taken from their part but mine will be. The worst most embarrassing dinner experience of my life. Please do not eat here!!!!

Read some mixed reviews on this place but gave it a shot anyways because we were in the mood for mexican food. It seemed like some people are reaching for things to complain about... the plates really? We were seated for lunch quickly and the decor is nice, although the faux painted exposed bricks stuck out to me as a cheap contrast to the nice finished wood throughout the restaurant. Wasn't a problem, just something I noticed that seemed odd. Our server was nice and prompt. We received our lunches very quickly and they were all 3 delicious and hot. It was a bit different than the thousands of other mexican restaurants that dot the midwest and seem to serve the exact same arrangements of the same ingredients so I appreciated something different. I had the enchiladas suiza and loved it. The also gave a generous helping of sour cream included on the side... many mexican joints seems to skimp on the cream, so I appreciated having plenty. The server brought our 3 year old a balloon which made her day. Overall we really liked this place!

Poor service unless you like getting your own silverware and drinks. Neither plates out of a party of two could eat this food and we love Mexican food.

  • Dick D.

If i had to give no stars I would. This place reeks ass. Not only does the food taste bad, the prices for food are more expensive than trying to buy a hooker on Las Vegas Blvd. The crap that comes out of their kitchen I wouldn't even feed to my dog. I regret spending money here and I would advise you not to go. The chips aren't bad.

  • William O.

I am not a Mexican food fan, but I enjoyed my burrito jalisco here. The ingredients were high quality and the taste was wonderful. Not the usual bland, plain Mexican food I am used to. They had several kids meals we could choose from and they gave the kids balloons. Of course, those dang balloons caused all sorts of problems in the car afterwards. Worth a revisit.

I want to give this 1 star, but I'll go with 2 to be nice. I was not impressed. Below average food, poor service and confusing ambiance. To start--when we walked in, it still very much resembled the irish pub that originally resided in this building. The walls still feature Irish/Celtic sayings and the bar promotes Guiness ahd Irish Whiskey (which I doubt they even sell). The hostess sat us right next to the back patio door on a frigid November night. There were serveral other open tables away from the cold doors, but rather than complaining we kept our coats on and figured this table was part of a rotation for the servers. The door we sat next to featured an advertisement for a special welcoming soccer fans in June (and it's now November). All of these things make me think that there isn't a lot of pride in the restaurant. How do you not notice an outdated sign for 5 months? Not one person took the initiative to take it down? We could never tell who our server was...we possibly had two that took turns coming over to us. They probably just didnt want to come by our table since it was sooooo cold. Our margaritas had a ton of sprite in them which is personally not the way I like mine but maybe other people do. The salsa wasn't bad and the cheese dip was ok. I got a chicken burrito that was soupy and it didnt come with rice or beans. We didn't finish it and didn't want a box. We brought a restaurant.com certificiate to put towards our meal and our server seemed annoyed that we had one. There is nothing more irritating than a server acting upset that you brought a coupon---after all the coupon brings in the business and generally most people know to tip 20% before the discount. There is no way we'll go back. There are so many wonderful Mexican restaurants in the city that put effort into making a great overall dining experience (food + drink + service + ambiance).

Was recently here and had a margarita the size of a boat. Was amazing. Wish there was a live band.

Went here for a late lunch and had the spinach echiladas with just beans, no rice. The spinach and peppers were tasty, though they probably had a bit to much oil for my liking. The queso, however, laden on top made up for it. The beans were nothing special but the whole plate was decent. The chips and salsa were where it was it. I loved the chips. They were such a weird combination to me. When you first pick them up they feel heavy and sturdy but they essentially melt in your mouth. Never had anything like it before but I was a fan.

Place has absolutely horrible food. I didn't think fajitas could be so bad. I would have much rather eaten at Taco Bell. At least the food would have been edible.

  • Mike R.

This place was really good! They give you chips and what seems to be house made salsa... if its not it tastes very fresh. The inside was very nice on the inside, but wasn't fancy. All of the people were very nice. I got the Chimichanga which was excellent! They do have some hot salsa/red sauce that was also very good. We ended up also getting the sopaipilla for dessert, it was pretty good size and tasted good, not sure if it was the best one ever, but still was good. Overall very good food, good service, and at a great price. I would go back again.

Our first time there was right after they opened and it was a good experience but a bit overpriced. Food, drink, and service were all good. Something happened. Went back early Sunday evening and sign at the door "daily special - Sangria Margarita" sounded good so I ordered one. It was the house margarita which is on tap with a splash of Sangria on top. Ordered a taco, burrito and tamale at the bar. Service was very good. Probably because we were the only ones at the bar. Now the bad part. The daily special margarita tasted like all mix and no alcohol at a whopping $8.99 each. The hard shell taco was so greasy that it turned into a soft shell by the time I got it. It consisted of a shell with ground beef and a small amount of melted cheese. It was stuck to the plate and fell apart when I tried to pick it up. The meat in the burrito and taco was exactly the same. I think the only seasoning they used was salt and a lot of it. As for the tamale, horrid The food was so bad we had to leave it. I guess I should have ask the price of the daily special before I ordered them. We won't be going back. There's to many good Mexican restaurants around.

What a gem! The perfect place to go before or after the NASCAR race. Was the previous reviewer even at the same establishment as I went to? The food is great. I had huevos rancheros and they were on par with the authentic dishes I'm used to having back home in Colorado. The red sauce was great and the tortillas are piping hot and fresh. The manager was very professional; one of those guys who knows how a restaurant should be run. I saw many dishes being served while I sat at the bar and they all looked great. Will I return to Casa Agave? ¡Por supuesto!

It's overpriced (bc of location) my service happened to be horrible. I was even charged for a soft drink when I had water. The fajita meat was chewy. Not tender. I'm sure I will be back since its the only mexi spot by the legends. But far from my favorite. Nice environment.

Do not go here. Its very mismanaged. We waited nearly 2 hours at the table after ordering, our food never came despite us asking about it, and we had to walk out without ever getting our food. It's among the worst places we have ever been. Again, do not go here. You'll be sorry you did....

Great value - good portions - excellent food. We took a group of 15 - including seven kids under six - there on a Friday night. They were able to accommodate us without an difficulty. Our drinks and food arrived quickly. The staff was extraordinarily nice. They totally exceeded our expectations!

We arrived at the Legends restaurant at 5:30 where we found the place to be not busy at all. I ordered a beer which came promptly and my wife ordered a peach daiquiri when we placed our meal order. We then waited and waited while we watched others come in, orders taken and be served. After 20 minutes, the waiter came by and commented about the daiquiri not being delivered at which time my wife indicated that she didn't want it anymore. The daiquiri was delivered 5 minutes later even though canceled. We then continued to wait and even watched the table of four next to us complete their meal and leave even though they arrived 15 to 20 minutes after we did. Unfortunately, the wait wasn't the worst part. When our meals finally arrived (50 minutes or so after we ordered!) my "Special Dinner" wasn't so special. The tostada shell and taco shell were so soggy that they disintegrated when I tried to eat them and the chili relleno was cold to the touch. This plate had obviously been setting on the counter for quite some time before being delivered to our table and likely ran through a microwave to reheat which only warmed the meat. The waiter did offer his apologies and did give us a 10% discount off of our bill for the delay. That however didn't even make up for the daiquiri that we were charged for even though it was cancelled. Nor does it make up for the incredibly crappy "Special Dinner" that I was served. I should note that I presented the above to Casa Agava's customer service web site but never received any explanation of our horrendous experience.

  • Mike T.

First time we went here it was just blah. Food doesn't have any flavor really. You would expect to have some kind of spice within mexican food typically. This place has none at all. The second time we went here some how they managed to actually burn the tortilla chips with the salsa. On top of that, the waiter we had barely was around to refill drinks or anything. And also, they didn't even bring out everyone's order at the same time. It took a long time to even get our food out when it was finally even brought out. I refuse to return to this place. Very plain food here no flavor. at all. Total waste of money IMO.

My husband and I stopped here a on whim in the middle of the week and we were pleasantly surprised! after reading the other reviews, I was a bit worried, but honestly, we had a great experience. Friendly helpful wait staff and the food was excellent. They brought a spicier salsa for my husband which he really liked. I ordered the fish tacos and the portion was massive (more than I could eat). The flavor was fresh and spicy and notably better than some fish tacos I have had at other Mexican restaurants. I hope this place sticks around because the Mexican food options in KCK are pretty limited.

We ate here when they first opened almost two years ago and it was a really nice experience. Good food, good drinks, great servers. Today they offered none of that. Cold chicken, uncooked vegetables served with the entrees, and the server seemed that they would rather be taking out the trash instead of serving us. Sad to see a restaurant totally give up. Boo.

Service was ok. Couldn't communicate well. Cherri pollo had no flavor and little cheese on it. It is my favorite dish but not tonight. My wife loved he Jalisco enchiladas. Wish they had the salad they served with the chips in Lawrence. Overall disappointed.

The service was extremely fast and Gabriel behind the bar was awesome! I ordered the vegetable fajitas and they were great, not to mention that it was enough food for two. You may just need to get an extra package of tortillas. Buen provecho!

NEVER AGAIN... worst food ever. Even the waiter couldn't recommend one good thing. The pork was super porky and tuff. Worst $35 ever spent.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America.
